Develop and Challenge
At this stage, youth who continue to be engaged in sport should focus on refining and mastering fundamental and basic sport skills essential to participation in multiple sports and recreational activities. Furthering these skills requires the athlete to be physically and mentally determined while keeping fun and socialization as key components.

Excel For High Performance or Participate and Succeed
At this age, athletes must decide whether to focus on the sport to enhance performance and competition or continue to compete for fun and health/social benefits. Youth athletes with the appropriate athletic development will have the option to choose a participation or competition pathway as they continue their physical literacy journey into adulthood.

Adults with a strong movement and sporting background will have the competence and confidence to participate in sport and recreational activity throughout the lifespan. Many athletes have the opportunity to give back to their sport through coaching, volunteering, etc. This is encouraged as this role in sports is necessary to aid the development of the next generation of athletes.
